Reclaimed and Salvaged Wood

Sustainability

Reclaimed Wood

Most recycled and reclaimed wood has unparalleled architectural quality and character - and often an interesting story that make it especially attractive for projects. Originally harvested from old growth forests, reclaimed vintage wood is extremely dense, with a high ring count. Its inclusion in projects brings a sense of warmth and history, and demonstrates respect and appreciation for the environment.

Unique challenges come when including reclaimed wood in new projects:

Mission Bell has been working with a wide variety of materials, both new and reclaimed for a long time. Our expertise in sourcing unique materials and manufacturing with them can help ensure that your next project is a success. We can recommend reclaimed veneer or solid stock applications that will leverage the material and keep an eye on the budget at the same time. Contact us for Preconstruction assistance or a presentation for your team on the challenges of reclaimed wood.

Salvaged Wood

Like reclaimed wood, doing projects with salvaged wood brings a sense of history to a building. It also brings some of the same challenges.

Salvaged wood has been recovered, from the bottoms of lakes, rivers or unearthed from the forest. It can currently be classified as a "controlled wood." Salvaged wood is typically still in log form. In most cases these logs have been left behind and are only recently being discovered. In the case of "urban salvage" they are trees that have been removed for good reason. Sometimes the bark is still intact. In other cases, because logs have been submerged for more than 100 years, the bark has rubbed off. The rich textures, stories and quality that come with old growth salvaged logs make projects beautiful as well as memorable.

Mission Bell invests in unique salvaged wood on occasion. Contact us to see what we've got, or to describe to us what you're looking for and we will work with you to source the best urban, domestic or international salvaged logs.
