San Jose State University is the founding school of the 23 campus California State University system and holds the distinction of being the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast of the USA. Located in downtown San Jose, the campus is situated on 154 acres and occupies approximately 19 square blocks. Established in 1857, it is fair to say the landscaping is well established. During the summer of 2012, an Elm tree next to MacQuarrie Hall lost a large limb which damaged a portion of the building. Fortunately nobody was walking past the entrance when it fell, so there were no injuries. ...
