Established in 2007 by husband-and-wife Mark Heising and Elizabeth Simons, the Heising-Simons Foundation is dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions for the environment, supporting groundbreaking research in science, and enhancing the education of children.

According to Sharon Refvem, the Project Architect of phase one, Mission Bell's unique Reclaimed Transbay Douglas Fir was selected as the defining feature for the Foundation's new 10,000 square-foot headquarters not only because of its beautiful patina and unique story but because of Heising Simon's primary doctrine of advancing a gold standard for environmental sustainability.
