GitHub is known for their powerful code host repository that enables collaboration, code review, and code management for open source and private projects. Their new headquarters provides a unique environment that encourages collaboration and creativity.

When they decided to relocate their headquarters, BNBuilders selected Mission Bell to provide the custom millwork and casework. With this project, Mission Bell provided Design Assist support, working closely with Fennie+Mehl and BNBuilders to recommend materials, input on constructability, and millwork details.

In a nod to the early days at Github, where employees first collaborated in local bars, cafés, and other gathering spots, their headquarters echoes their earlier collaboration spots. Their space includes two bars, three cafés, a library, an indoor park, a museum, bleachers and even a speakeasy. This unique project is a bridge from previously typical office configurations to a whole new way of encouraging interaction and creativity with spaces that look more like bars, living rooms, secret club houses and cubbies. Working closely with Fennie+Mehl, we helped turn their creative vision into a reality. We used Reclaimed Wood for a variety of areas including their reception desk, a radius bar, a Dutch door, and wood slab shelving. We sourced unique hardware that matched the architect's vision and installed a 24-foot long free standing butcher block desk. This, along with other areas where we provided quality work, helped land Fennie+Mehl IIDA's 2014 Honors Award for best design.
